Eversource Invests $50 Million to Upgrade Connecticut Gas Lines
As part of Eversource’s effort to modernize its natural gas distribution system for customers, the company is investing $50 million in gas line improvement projects in Connecticut in 2017. The work involves replacing approximately 20 miles of existing cast iron and steel pipe in New London, Stamford, Meriden, Middletown, Putnam and Wallingford with new specialized plastic pipe, which is safer, more durable and better able to handle fluctuations in underground temperatures.
“Safely delivering a reliable supply of clean, convenient natural gas is the most important service we can provide our customers,” said Bill Akley, President of Gas Operations at Eversource. “So each year, we review the system’s performance and identify areas to make necessary and valuable improvements to maintain a first-rate natural gas distribution system.”
Over the past six years, Eversource has replaced nearly 120 miles of older gas lines.
