Sunoco to Connect Homes With Tainted Wells to Public Water
WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Sunoco Pipeline LP is paying to connect municipal water to about 30 Pennsylvania residences whose well water was contaminated while the company built its Mariner East 2 Pipeline.
Sunoco says the residents in West Whiteland Township are being connected to Aqua Pennsylvania supply system. The township says a timetable and whether Sunoco will pay those residents’ monthly water bills is still being worked out. Aqua Pennsylvania says a 1,600-foot (487.7-meter)-long water main must be built to supply the homes.
Sunoco spokesman Jeff Shields says the company is still assessing the number of homes affected.
The $2.5 billion, 350-mile (563-kilometer) pipeline will carry propane, butane and ethane.
Township and other public officials say some wells stopped flowing and others produced cloudy water earlier this month after horizontal drilling in the area.
