BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Vermont health officials are warning residents about possible water contamination following flooding in the region.

The state health department tells WCAX-TV residents using private wells should monitor their water quality. Health officials say standing water from floods can reach drinking water supplies. The contaminated water may contain sewage or heating oil.
Health department toxicologist Sarah Vose says people may notice dirty or oily water. Health officials say residents should not use water if they notice any signs of contamination.
