Tennessee Counties get Grants, Loans for Water-Related Improvements
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee congressman David Kustoff’s office says the U.S. Department of Agriculture is giving more than $16 million in grants and loans to three rural counties for water-related improvements.
The West Tennessee Republican said Friday that the department is investing $13.7 million in loans and $2.8 million in grants to Crockett, Henry and Tipton counties.
Kustoff said funds will be used in Crockett County to replace about 10 miles of existing water lines that suffered failures over the last year. The failures resulted in an unreliable and unsafe drinking water supply for affected residents.
The Henry County investment will upgrade the wastewater collection system and treatment plant for the city of Paris.
In Tipton County, the goal is to improve the wastewater distribution system and make well operations more energy efficient.
