HDD Association hosts complimentary mud training school
(UI) — The recently formed Horizontal Directional Drilling Association (HDDA) will hold its first industry training session on May 18 at the Doubletree Hotel adjacent to Love Field in Dallas.
HDDA will also hold a business meeting, in conjunction with the training session.
The business meeting will begin at 9 a.m., on May 18, with an introduction as to the purpose and direction of the association. All utility and pipeline professionals with core or related HDD business are encouraged to attend. The program will be complimentary to HDD personnel.
“No matter if your focus is on FTTH or large transmission pipelines, HDDA needs your energy and participation to protect our industry,” said HDDA President Don Riggs, Future Infrastructure. “Our goal is to educate the public, customers, municipalities and other government agencies as to the benefits of directional drilling.”
After a catered luncheon is provided for all meeting attendees from noon to 1 p.m., the afternoon activities will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the hotel parking lot. The training will feature several areas of mud and fluids. Clint Pitman, Drilling Mud Direct and Don White, DCS Drill Solutions, are working with several volunteers to develop this highly beneficial training:
Mud Testing 101: This segment will prepare attendees for the afternoon’s focus on achieving specific training goals, such as being able to conduct three basic mud tests plus understand why these tests are important. Attendees will also be exposed to two additional advanced mud tests and why they are important.
Station 1-Marsh Funnel Vis Cup: At this station, attendees will learn the importance of this test, why it matters and what it tells you. After a group demonstration, students will have the opportunity to conduct their own hands-on test.
Station 2-Mud Balance/Mud Weight Test & Ph Testing: Discussed at this station will be the significance and importance of mud balance, weight and ph. A group demo will be followed by hands-on mud balance tests.
Station 3-Sand Content Test: A discussion of sand content will include both a general demonstration and individual testing opportunities.
Wrap Up: This session will start with a quick discussion on the various mud products used during the demonstrations, along with an open question and answer session.
