TC Energy to repair ruptured NGTL natural gas pipeline segment in Canada following wildfires
(UI) – On April 16, TC Energy reported an “incident” at its NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd (NGTL) natural gas system approximately 40 km northwest of Edson, Alta in Yellowhead County, Alberta. According to the company, a rupture occurred on a segment of the system, sparking an “initial ignition” and shutting down the portion of the pipeline.

A secondary fire sparked the following day, which was eventually contained and confirmed by Alberta Wildfire. TC Energy said it’s working with federal regulators to investigate the cause of the rupture and conduct environmental impact studies.
While a portion of the pipeline is shut down, TC Energy assured that NGTL’s “web-like pipeline structure provides many paths for gas transportation access, which allows for operational flexibility.”
Pipeline segments near the rupture have resumed normal operations as of April 22 after completing integrity assessme.ts. TC Energy has now entered the repairing and restoration stage of reconstruction after staying down the initial emergency response.
TC Energy’s 15,153-mile NGTL pipeline system connects most of Western Canada’s natural gas production from the Sedimentary basin to domestic and export markets.
