Massachusetts Clean Water Trust approves $44.7 million in water infrastructure funding
(UI) — The Massachusetts Clean Water Trust's Board of Trustees has greenlit $44,768,312 in new low-interest loans and grants during its February 14, 2024, meeting, aimed at bolstering water infrastructure across the state.
Partnering with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), the Trust focuses on supporting communities in building or replacing water infrastructure to improve ground and surface water resources, ensure drinking water safety, protect public health, and foster resilient communities. These goals are achieved through the provision of low-interest loans and grants to cities, towns, and water utilities via the Massachusetts State Revolving Funds (SRFs), collaborative programs between the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The approved funding includes allocations for various clean water projects, lead service line planning grants, a community septic management program, and school water improvement grants (SWIG).
Details of the approved funding include:
Clean Water Projects:
- Worcester: $1,666,000 for City Wide Sewer Flow Monitoring
- Yarmouth: $41,779,312 for Phase I Water Resource Recovery Facility & Collection System
Lead Service Line Planning Grants:
- Bondsville Fire and Water District, Dighton Water District, Peabody, Worcester: Totaling $796,000
Community Septic Management Program:
- Hamilton: $500,000
School Water Improvement Grants (SWIG):
- All Saints Catholic School, Boys & Girls Club Family Center, First Parish Preschool, Lexington Montessori School, Reading Montessori School, Inc.: Totaling $27,000
