West Virginia water infrastructure gets $1.09 million boost in matching funds

(UI) — Governor Jim Justice of West Virginia has announced $1.09 million in non-federal matching funds allocated to Congressionally Directed Spending, aimed at improving the state's critical infrastructure and addressing community needs.
Governor Justice expressed pride in the state's commitment to crucial infrastructure improvements, highlighting the positive impact these investments will have on economic growth and citizens' quality of life. The matching funds signify a steadfast dedication to the well-being and prosperity of West Virginia residents.
Recipients of the funding include:
- Shady Spring Public Service District in Raleigh County, which secured $2 million from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), with a $500,000 non-federal match from the Governor's Office. The Glen Morgan Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade project will replace and expand equipment, boosting capacity to 1.6 million gallons per day and preventing future failures.
- The Town of Alderson in Greenbrier and Monroe Counties, which received $372,000 from the US EPA, with a $93,000 non-federal match from the Governor's Office. This funding will support The Town of Alderson Water System Rehabilitation and Expansion Project, improving water system infrastructure and extending service to Riverside Rest, enhancing water service reliability and fire protection across multiple counties.
- Berkeley County Public Service Water District in Berkeley County, which secured $3 million from the US EPA, with a $500,000 non-federal match from the Governor's Office, and an additional $250,000 from the Berkeley County PSD. The Bunker Hill Water Mainline Upgrades project will enhance the capacity of water treatment and distribution, benefiting current and future residents of Berkeley County.
