Louisiana secures $4 million for water, sewer upgrades across 10 towns

(UI) — U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) announced that Louisiana will receive over $4 million in federal funding to improve water and sewer systems across ten towns.

The funding comes from the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which aims to boost infrastructure and quality of life in local communities.

“This is great news for Louisiana,” said Cassidy. “Thanks to the Infrastructure Law, we can expect to see even more dollars coming our way.”

The grants will address critical water and sewer issues in towns such as West Monroe, Maurice, and Kaplan, improving services for thousands of residents and supporting new developments.

Project Breakdown:

• City of West Monroe: $509,000 to upgrade 770 feet of sewer infrastructure, supporting economic growth.
• Town of Maurice: $509,000 to enhance the water system, addressing public health concerns and accommodating population growth.
• North Desoto Water System: $509,000 to construct a new booster station, improving water storage and supply for Stonewall and nearby areas.
• City of Minden: $509,000 to replace water mains, ensuring reliable service and improved fire protection.
• Town of Marion: $454,000 to rehabilitate a 64-year-old sewer lift station, addressing poor conditions and health violations.
• City of Kaplan: $418,100 for comprehensive sewer system rehabilitation to boost resilience and functionality.
• Village of Plaucheville: $218,000 to build a new water main, reducing service disruptions.
• Town of Lockport: $199,000 to improve sewer and wastewater systems, essential for sustaining the community and supporting tourism.
• Town of Waterproof: $80,000 to replace backup pumps in sewer lift stations, meeting increased usage demands.
