$700 million pipeline upgrade modernizes 51 miles of Wisconsin infrastructure
MADISON, Wis. (UI) — TC Energy has placed its $700 million Wisconsin Reliability Project (WRP) into commercial service, completing a major natural gas pipeline modernization aimed at strengthening energy reliability across Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
The project replaces about 51 miles of aging pipeline on the ANR Pipeline system, meeting rising demand and improving efficiency. WRP also upgraded compressor stations in Kewaskum and Weyauwega, as well as multiple meter stations across six Wisconsin communities.
During construction, the project generated an estimated $1.1 billion in economic output, supported 4,300 jobs, and contributed $68 million in tax revenue to Wisconsin. According to TC Energy, the new infrastructure positions the state to meet a projected 45% increase in natural gas demand by 2035, driven by manufacturing growth and regional development.
“I was born and raised in Wisconsin and I know reliable energy fuels everything—from our farms, factories and businesses to the communities that keep our neighbors working,” said Jon Draeger, Vice President, U.S. Projects at TC Energy. “The Wisconsin Reliability Project connects our state to the energy it needs while creating well-paying jobs for local workers and generating millions in tax revenue that supports our schools and communities for generations to come.”
The project follows two years of permitting and community engagement before construction began in 2024. TC Energy worked with Michels Corp. and Precision Pipeline to perform the work locally.
WRP is part of TC Energy’s broader U.S. investment plan, which includes two upcoming Wisconsin expansions—ANR Heartland and ANR Northwoods—representing a combined $1.8 billion in new spending to bolster capacity and reduce emissions.
