Plastic pipe industry launches campaign to counter misinformation, promote sustainability
A coalition of North America’s leading plastic pipe associations has launched a new educational campaign aimed at addressing misconceptions about plastic piping systems and highlighting their long-term infrastructure benefits.
The initiative — titled “The Truth About Plastic Pipe” — was developed by the Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI), the Plastic Pipe and Fittings Association (PPFA), and the Uni-Bell PVC Pipe Association (PVCPA). The campaign includes a national advertising and social media outreach effort designed to inform municipalities, engineers, and contractors about the proven sustainability, durability, and cost efficiency of plastic piping.
According to PPI President David M. Fink, plastic piping offers decades of corrosion-free performance and lower installation costs compared to traditional materials. The campaign also underscores the industry’s advances in recycling and innovation, noting that millions of pounds of recycled material are used annually to manufacture high-performance pipe products.
“The Truth About Plastic Pipe” focuses on four key themes: sustainability and recycling, durability and resilience, efficiency and value, and innovation and leadership. The associations emphasize that plastic piping systems are not only lightweight and easy to install but also resistant to corrosion, cracking, and seismic movement — making them a reliable choice for long-term infrastructure applications.
The campaign will be featured across digital platforms, industry media, and conferences to provide data-driven resources and technical information supporting the use of plastic pipe in building, municipal, and industrial infrastructure systems.
