Phase 2 work begins on Brookglen stormwater basin in La Porte, Texas
(UI) — The Harris County Flood Control District and the City of La Porte are preparing to begin Phase 2 construction of the Brookglen Stormwater Detention Basin, a flood mitigation project designed to reduce stormwater impacts in the Brookglen subdivision.
The project site is located near Somerton Drive and Ashwyne Lane in La Porte. Once complete, the detention basin will temporarily store excess runoff during heavy rainfall events, helping to lower flood risk in surrounding residential areas.
The basin is designed with three compartments that will function together to manage peak stormwater flows. Under normal conditions, the basin will remain dry.
Construction is expected to continue through early 2027, pending weather and site conditions. Gladwyne Lane will remain open during the work, while construction access will be routed through Somerton Drive. Residents in the area may experience increased truck traffic and daytime heavy equipment operations.
The Brookglen project is part of the Harris County Flood Control District’s broader bond program. The project is identified as HCFCD Project ID B512-02-00-E002 and Bond Project C-06.
