Dennis Kennedy, former DCA executive vice president, dies at 84
(UI) — Dennis Kennedy, who served as executive vice president of the Distribution Contractors Association (DCA) for more than two decades and helped guide the organization's growth, died July 20. He was 84.
Kennedy joined DCA in 1989 and led the association's day-to-day operations until retiring in 2010. During his tenure, he played a key role in expanding the organization and strengthening its presence within the underground construction industry. DCA said Kennedy's leadership helped shape the association into what it is today.
Prior to his career with DCA, Kennedy served two tours in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a lieutenant. He later spent nearly three decades with the association, working closely with contractors and industry leaders while helping oversee its conventions and member programs.
In a statement, DCA remembered Kennedy as a respected leader whose contributions left a lasting impact on the organization.
"Dennis was a valued leader of the DCA community through his years of service with the association," DCA said. "His contributions were immense as he shaped the association into what it is today."
According to his obituary, Kennedy died surrounded by family after battling bladder, prostate and testicular cancer, Parkinson's disease and complications following a heart attack.
Kennedy is survived by his wife, daughter and three grandchildren. At his request, no funeral will be held, though the family plans a military tribute in recognition of his Navy service. Donations in his memory may be made to the Osteosarcoma Institute in honor of his grandson, a two-time cancer survivor.
