11-mile Texas pipeline replacement upgrades 72-in. PCCP to 102-in. steel

(UI) — An 11-mile water pipeline replacement project between Mansfield and Midlothian, Texas, is underway, replacing aging 72-in. prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) with 90-in. and 102-in. welded steel pipe within the TRWD right-of-way.

The multi-year project began in 2024 and is expected to run through late 2027, with one mile already substantially complete west of FM 664. Current work is progressing east from Mansfield, including pipe removal and installation across multiple segments.

Construction includes both open-cut installation and tunneling, with casing work planned or underway beneath highways, railroads and major crossings. Tunneling activity is ongoing near Broad Street and the UPRR corridor, where crews are removing existing pipe and installing new steel pipe within casings.

Recent work has focused on removing existing concrete pipe and installing new steel segments between Walnut Creek Drive, Broad Street and Heritage Parkway. Additional phases include continued tunneling, pipe installation and surface and stream restoration along completed sections.

Work is largely confined to the TRWD right-of-way and temporary easements, though the corridor crosses roads, rail lines and waterways. Construction activity is expected to bring increased truck traffic, noise and temporary traffic diversions in affected areas.
