Mercer Island, Wash., sewer upgrade enters major construction phase
MERCER ISLAND, Wash. (UI) — King County Wastewater Treatment Division is continuing construction on a large-scale sewer infrastructure replacement project spanning north Mercer Island and portions of Bellevue near Enatai Beach Park.
The North Mercer Island/Enatai Sewer Upgrade Project is replacing aging wastewater pipelines serving Mercer Island, southwest Bellevue and the Town of Beaux Arts Village. Officials said the upgraded infrastructure is designed to provide at least 50 years of additional sewer service reliability.
Construction activity is underway across multiple project zones, including sewer pipe replacement work, pump station upgrades, pipe relining operations and roadway restoration. Crews are also performing paving, siphon work and underground utility construction near Mercer Island City Hall and along portions of the I-90 corridor.
King County said the project includes approximately four miles of sewer infrastructure upgrades along with improvements to the North Mercer Pump Station and Lift Station 11. Some work areas remain under active construction while others have moved into restoration phases.
Officials said extended Saturday construction hours remain approved through late June as crews continue work across north Mercer Island. Traffic shifts, trail closures and single-lane alternating traffic remain in place in several active construction zones.
