Pflugerville eases water restrictions as Texas raw waterline repairs advance
(UI) - Pflugerville, Texas, has scaled back emergency water restrictions as repairs continue on a damaged raw waterline and lake levels recover following months of supply disruptions.
According to Water Daily, the city moved from Stage 3 emergency measures to modified Stage 1 restrictions after Lake Pflugerville returned to target operating levels. Officials said the updated protocols will remain in place while crews complete repairs to the existing 30-inch raw waterline and finalize construction of a new 42-inch secondary line designed to expand long-term capacity.
The infrastructure issues began after multiple breaks occurred during construction of the parallel secondary waterline project, interrupting water flow into the city’s primary reservoir. A temporary bypass system was installed to maintain deliveries from the Colorado River while repairs progressed, Water Daily reported.
Once operational, the secondary raw waterline is expected to significantly increase available supply capacity for the rapidly growing Austin-area community. City officials said the project is critical to supporting future demand and improving long-term system resilience.
