LAS VEGAS (AP) — Clark County Water Reclamation District is working to educate the public to keep flushable wipes out of toilets in effort to curb the buildup the product can create.

The Las Vegas Sun reports the district spends tens of thousands of dollars annually to clear out buildup of items, such as flushable wipes.
Compliance and Regulatory Affairs Administrator Julie Chadburn says the product is not flushable, although it is advertised as such, and can clog homeowner’s pipes and sewer pipes.
The wipes also get stuck in the district’s facilities.
The district is launching its Pain the Drain campaign to teach people about the damage items such as flushable wipes and prescription pills can do when thrown down the toilet.
Chadburn says the district is also considering addressing the term “flushable” at the Nevada Legislature.
