Minnesota Metropolitan Council Announces Battle Creek Interceptor Project
The Metropolitan Council announced that it has approved and began a rehabilitation project that will repair and update a significant part of the regional sewer system in Saint Paul, Min.
Known as the Battle Creek Interceptor project, the rehabilitation work will cover a broad swath of the 610-mile sewer system with 60 lift stations and 223 metering sites. The interceptor system meters and transports wastewater flows from local community systems to one of nine other wastewater treatment plants.
The rehabilitation project will protect water quality and public health in the region while preparing for regional growth.
The interreceptor rehabilitation project will work to rebuild deteriorated areas, reduce infiltration and inflow and improve structural integrity in order to prevent structural collapse or similar issues. There were several areas noted to have severe corrosion and voids or breaks in piping within the interceptor system that will be corrected.
