LMCT Donates to CEWD Troops to Energy Jobs Program
The Labor Management Cooperative Trust (LMCT) is proud to announce a donation of $50,000 to the Center for Energy Workforce Development’s (CEWD) Troops to Energy Jobs program. The Troops to Energy Jobs program is designed to help veterans and members of the National Guard and Reserves make a successful transition to a rewarding career in the energy industry. These jobs are both challenging and rewarding and provide competitive compensation and professional growth opportunities.
In 1990 a joint labor-management trust was established between the Distribution Contractors Association (DCA) and the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA). This LMCT is designed to promote communications, expand work opportunities, promote safe work conditions, and advance mutual interests relating to the natural gas distribution industry. In 2018 the Trust created an annual $50,000 contribution to go to organizations dedicated to assisting veterans’ groups or military members past and present. The 2019 contribution went to Helmets to Hardhats.
“For the last 60 years, DCA’s mission is to support the natural gas and underground utility industry. CEWD has been a fantastic partner in our efforts to expand the contractors’ workforce and the Troops to Energy Jobs initiative helps veterans transition into the energy industry. We look forward to our continued partnership in expanding the talent pool through a focus on the military.” said DCA’s chief executive and LMCT’s executive director Robert Darden.
“CEWD is incredibly grateful to DCA and LIUNA for directing this generous contribution to our Troops to Energy Jobs program. Approximately 8% of the industry’s workforce is comprised of veterans. Energy employers would like to see that number grow as those who have served in the military offer such transferable skills to the energy sector,” noted Missy Henriksen, CEWD’s executive director. “This gift will help expand the visibility of industry career paths to veterans and members of the National Guard and Reserves.
