Tennessee awards $17 million for infrastructure, including water and sewer upgrades

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UI) — Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter announced $17 million in grants for infrastructure improvements, including water and sewer upgrades.
Key grants for water and sewer projects include:
- Decatur County Chamber of Commerce: $843,535 for sewer infrastructure at the Decatur County Industrial Site.
- Industrial Development Board of the Town of Huntingdon: $829,452 for water and sewer infrastructure, access road construction, and property grading at Huntingdon Industrial Park South.
- Lawrence County Joint Economic and Community Development Board: $4.5 million for water, sewer, natural gas, and electrical infrastructure, along with property purchase at Lawrenceburg Industrial Park.
These grants are part of the Site Development Grant program, which aims to enhance infrastructure for economic development. The program, under the Rural Economic Opportunity Act, has awarded nearly $100 million since 2016, generating over 7,000 new jobs. These investments are crucial for the economic growth of Tennessee’s rural communities.
