Hawaii American Water contains 370,000-gallon wastewater overflow
(UI) — Hawaii American Water has resolved two wastewater overflows near Lunalilo Home Road in Honolulu following heavy rainfall last week.
The overflows, caused by extreme precipitation, led to the discharge of approximately 370,000 gallons of untreated wastewater into Kuapa Pond and a nearby tributary. Crews responded immediately, containing and addressing both incidents by early Friday morning.
Warning signs have been posted in affected areas, and water quality testing is ongoing. Hawaii American Water confirmed that all pump stations and pumps are operating properly and that the company is coordinating with the State Department of Health.
“The overflows have been resolved successfully and safely,” said Hawaii American Water Operations Manager Lee Mansfield. “We want to thank our employees who worked quickly and safely to address these incidents and our partners at the Health Department for their support.”
