Water, sewer rates to increase in Republic, Mo. to cover infrastructure upgrades
According to KY3 News, water and sewer rates are expected to increase for Republic, Mo., residents both inside and outside the city limits.
The water rate increases will benefit the city’s water infrastructure and ensure full compliance with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The sewer rate increases will help pay off some of the $50 million state loan used for upgrades to the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
Water and sewer rates are expected to increase incrementally for the next three years. Republic City Administrator David Cameron told KY3 News that this is the best option for the city, stating that the goal is to work with legislature to reduce debt before borrowing any more.
The improvement projects previously completed include two new wells and towers, replacing aging water mains and upgrading water meters to an automated system for quicker leak detection. The city of Republic has a 20-year water plan in place to identify nearly $100 million in investments for water infrastructure.
These rate increases will take effect starting March 1.
