25th Utility Investigation School to take place January 2025 in Phoenix, Ariz.
(UI) — The 25th Utility Investigation School (UIS), a joint initiative by the Buried Asset Management Institute-International (BAMI-I), the Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute (UESI), Purdue University, and Iowa State University, will take place January 27-31, 2025, at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
This year’s event is supported by the City of Phoenix and Arizona State University, highlighting a collaborative effort to advance education and practical knowledge in utility engineering and surveying.
The program offers two options:
- Two-Day School (January 27-28, 2025):
Tailored for project managers and engineers, this condensed course focuses on the impact of utilities on project development and strategies to address these challenges proactively. Key topics include ASCE engineering standards (ASCE 38 and ASCE 75), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) studies, utility coordination, and investigation scopes of work. - Cost: $1,000
- Credits: 1.6 CEUs / 16.0 PDH
- Five-Day School (January 27-31, 2025):
Expanding on the two-day course, the extended program offers additional material geared toward those pursuing ASCE’s upcoming Board Certification for Project Utility Engineers (BC.PUE). Participants will delve into geophysics and tools for comprehensive utility investigations, with insights to help prepare for future certification exams. - Cost: $1,995
- Credits: 4.0 CEUs / 40 PDH
Course Developers and Instructors:
The UIS program was developed by Dr. Tom Iseley (Purdue University) and Jim Anspach (Iowa State University), both distinguished experts in the field. This year’s instructors include Jim Anspach, Dr. Sam Ariaratnam (Arizona State University), and Robert Ramsey, with Anspach making his final appearance as a UIS instructor.
Since its inception, over 500 professionals have benefited from this program, designed for utility engineers, coordinators, and subsurface utility engineers, along with geophysical technicians, CAD personnel, and quality assurance teams.
