American Augers launches compact HDD fluid cleaning system
(UI) — American Augers has introduced the M150D Fluid Cleaning System, a compact unit designed for utility horizontal directional drilling (HDD) contractors looking to improve drilling fluid management while reducing downtime and equipment requirements on the jobsite.
Built for use with 20,000- to 120,000-pound HDD rigs, the M150D is designed to provide the fluid cleaning performance of larger systems in a smaller, self-contained package. The company said the system addresses space constraints common on utility HDD projects while helping crews spend more time drilling and less time maintaining drilling fluid.
Richard Levings, product manager for American Augers, said the company designed the system specifically for utility contractors rather than adapting an existing machine.
"Utility contractors have been asking for a compact fluid cleaning system that delivers the same level of cleaning performance as larger systems without the added size, setup time or complexity," Levings said.
According to American Augers, the unit transports its own drilling fluid, eliminating the need for separate fluid trucks while reducing jobsite congestion. The system also features mechanical agitation for on-demand mixing and an oversized Derrick shaker that removes additional solids before fluid returns to the tank.
The company said the simplified setup and teardown process helps crews get to work faster while reducing time spent hauling spoils, remixing drilling fluid and stopping for water.
The M150D expands American Augers' line of HDD fluid management equipment and is available through the Ditch Witch dealer network.
