West Virginia American Water Names New President
West Virginia American Water has named Brian Bruce its new president, effective March 1, 2017. Bruce replaces Jeffrey McIntyre, who has been named Senior Vice President of American Water’s Mid-Atlantic Division, encompassing Pennsylvania and West Virginia. McIntyre will also become President of Pennsylvania American Water.
“We can’t thank Jeff enough for his leadership in West Virginia and we are so pleased to have Brian join the Mid-Atlantic team,” said American Water’s chief operating officer, Walter Lynch. “Brian has more than 25 years of experience in the water industry and is highly committed to excellent customer service. I know he is excited to join our local team and meet the great people we are privileged to serve in West Virginia.”
Bruce is currently the President of New York American Water, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater services to approximately 350,000 people. In this role, he is responsible for all aspects of the business — including customer, regulatory and local government relationships and operational performance — and is the principal external contact for American Water in New York.
Prior to his current position, Bruce was New York American Water’s Vice President of Operations, where he oversaw the operations of the company’s customer service, production, water quality, environmental management, transmission and distribution, risk management and maintenance departments. He came to New York American Water from California American Water, where he held a variety of roles of progressing responsibility within the company.
Before joining American Water in 2005, Bruce worked for the city of Papillion, Neb., first as water department superintendent, obtaining his State Grade 1 Operators License, and later as assistant public works director. He also has experience as a water system operator in Wisconsin, where he earned state licensure in Supply Operations – Surface and Ground Water. Additionally, he has a license in the state of Michigan in Plant Operations and Distribution.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bruce earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Silver Lake College in Wisconsin and an associate degree in water and wastewater technology from Bay De Noc Community College in Michigan.
