Lumos to invest $100 million in South Carolina fiber optic expansion
(UI) – Lumos announced its expansion into Greenville County, South Carolina, with nearly a $100 million investment to build out over 775 miles of its ultra-fast fiber optic network throughout the county.
As a result of this expansion, Lumos will be the first fiber provider to families, households, and businesses throughout portions of the Greenville market, establishing underserved areas of South Carolina for economic success in the future. The expansion will bring 100% fiber optic internet to thousands of residents and businesses in the greater Greenville area.
Lumos will serve areas in the cities of Greenville, Greer, and Travelers Rest, in addition to portions of the following communities: Tigerville, Slate-Marietta, Taylors, Berea, Sans Souci, Judson, Gany, City View, Dunean, Golden Grove, Parker, Wade Hampton and Welcome.
“In this era, broadband is an essential utility that benefits individual consumers, the community, and helps our local economy continue to thrive. Connection to homes provides necessary access to education, health care, commerce, and entertainment,” said Dan Tripp, Chairman of Greenville County Council. “There is still great demand for affordable, reliable, high-speed fiber connection in many of our diverse neighborhoods. This increase of options in a competitive marketplace assures we can meet our current and future digital demands while serving all geographic areas of our county.”
This is Lumos’ third expansion into South Carolina since the start of 2023, with the company investing over $250 million into Greenville, Spartanburg, Richland and Lexington Counties.
“Investing in fiber optics is about more than connecting communities and fostering continued business growth,” said John Lummus, President and CEO of Upstate SC Alliance. “This infrastructure investment will provide tens of thousands of people with high-speed internet that lights a path to a brighter economic future and enhanced quality of life.”
Engineering work for this new investment is planned to begin in early 2024, with construction following in the latter half of next year.
