United Rentals adds AI and AR tools to streamline equipment rentals
STAMFORD, Conn. (UI) — United Rentals has rolled out two new digital features designed to simplify equipment rentals: Smart Suggestions and Equipment Fit Augmented Reality (AR).
The company said Smart Suggestions uses machine learning to recommend equipment based on order history, jobsite data, seasonality, and industry trends. United Rentals reports the tool has already cut the average time to find and order equipment by 27%.
The Equipment Fit AR feature lets customers use a mobile device to place 3D models of equipment on their jobsite virtually, helping them confirm dimensions, plan placement, and ensure access in tight areas. It is initially available for select categories, with more to be added.
“Smart Suggestions and Equipment Fit AR are about anticipating customer needs,” said Paul Maddison, director of product management at United Rentals. “By leveraging machine learning and augmented reality, we’re giving customers tools that help them make confident, informed decisions at the moment of rental.”
Both features build on the company’s broader push into digital capabilities, which already allow browsing, reserving, and managing equipment from any device.
