New partnership allows nationwide expansion for Colorado drilling fluids firm
(UI) — Drilling Mud Direct (DMD), a leading distributor of bentonite and drilling fluid products for the horizontal directional drilling, pipeline infrastructure and civil construction markets, has announced a partnership with Broadwater Capital, an investment firm based in Fargo, N.Dak., focused on growing founder-built businesses.
Founded in 2002 by Clint Pitman, DMD operates a nationwide stock point network and distributes bentonite, drilling fluid additives, shaker screens, solidification solutions and related consumable products. The company’s affiliated entities – Freight Direct LLC and Pitbull Services LLC – provide integrated logistics and onsite mud engineering services.
“This partnership gives us the resources and strategic support to improve customer support, expand our footprint, reach new markets and invest in the capabilities that HDD and civil construction contractors increasingly need from their supply partners,” said Clint Pitman, founder and CEO of DMD.
“I am looking forward to leading a new and improved DMD into the future. For our customers, it is business as usual, but with more support, stock points and technology. Our team is excited to take DMD to another level.”
DMD started out with a focus on the fluid needs of large directional drilling rigs, supplying full truckloads of mud to contractors. “We have since grown to serve all sizes of rigs from small to large, but our primary focus continues to be truckload type shipments,” Pitman said.
The company has also expanded from just supplying drilling mud to now providing additives/chemicals, shaker screens, mud mixing/recycling system parts and accessories, mud testing kits and testing supplies, mud engineering and slurry solidification solutions.
Erik Barner, founder and managing partner of Broadwater Capital, added: “Clint and his team have built something rare – a distribution business with genuine supplier relationships, logistics advantages and a reputation for customer care that took decades to build. The HDD and civil construction markets are growing, and DMD is positioned at the center of that activity. We are here to help the team capitalize on the opportunity ahead.”
