Kiewit selected for underground utility relocation on Québec City tramway
Kiewit has been selected to perform underground utility relocation work for Québec City’s $7.6-billion tramway project, marking a major preparatory phase in development of the urban transit system.
According to Ontario Construction News, the work will take place along René-Lévesque Boulevard and 1st Avenue, two key downtown corridors that will host segments of the future tramway. The utility relocation scope includes moving and upgrading existing subsurface infrastructure to clear the right-of-way for track installation and related transit construction activities.
Project officials said the relocation phase is critical to mitigating construction conflicts and ensuring long-term system reliability. Crews will coordinate closely with local stakeholders to manage traffic, business access and neighborhood impacts during the work.
The tramway project represents one of the largest transportation infrastructure investments in Québec City’s history, Ontario Construction News reported. Completion of the underground utility relocation will pave the way for subsequent phases of tramway construction in the coming months.
